Smart Village Martinfeld.
SMARTinfeld is a Smart Village project in Martinfeld, part of Schimberg in Eichsfeld. It demonstrates practical digital tools for rural life: LoRaWAN sensors, accessible environmental data and village information. The project pages explain energy, water and traffic applications, including unresolved operational questions. Other small municipalities can learn from the approach and experience; radio planning and pilot projects still need to account for local conditions.
An award for digital ideas in rural communities.
In 2023, SMARTinfeld won an award in the “Smarte Kommune” (Smart Municipality) category of the “Digitale Orte” competition. The “Deutschland – Land der Ideen” initiative presents the project as an example of how IoT applications can support village life.
The award reinforces our approach: even small villages can shape and test digital applications together.
